Obituary for Alberta "Bertie" Cecilia Mary Szczomak

Alberta “Bertie” Szczomak
August 15, 1931- May 29, 2021

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear beloved mother, Alberta Cecilia Mary Szczomak “Close eyes” on May 29, 2021 at the age of 89.

Alberta was born in Port Arthur, Ontario to Albert Krouse and Mary (nee Meservier) Krouse on August 15, 1931. She started working at the General Hospital for 11 years as a first cook and she went on to Dawson Court Home for the Aged for 19 years, retiring in 1989.

Alberta married Alex Szczomak, November 1954 and they had 2 children, a daughter, and a son. They met at a dance and were married 26 years. She loved cooking, family dinners, music, dancing, gardening and was very fond of animals. She had numerous pets.

Alberta was all about family and it showed in her generous spirit and nature. She took the best care of her family and loved them with all her heart and soul. She was a kind, compassionate and patient woman to everyone who knew her. Over the years, Alberta fought more than her fair share of health-related battles.

Alberta is survived by her daughter Anne LeBlanc (Réal), Alex Szczomak (Gail), granddaughter Alexis and great granddaughter Charlotte.

She was predeceased by her husband Alex Szczomak, father Albert Krouse, mother Mary Krouse and sister Eunice Krouse in infancy.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers; Dr. Michano-Stewart, Dr. Abu-Bakare, Dr. Watson, Dr. Silverberg, Dr. Lai, Dr. Skunta, Paramed – Alina and Monika, nurses and staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor Transition Unit – Tera, and Sargent and Son, especially Samantha and Michael.
