Obituary for Alura Dawn Wynn

It is with great sadness the family of Alura Dawn Wynn, Canku teca wiwang waci win (Sundance woman walks a new path) passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023, after a fierce and courageous battle with cancer. Alura was surrounded by her loved ones. She was a daughter, sister, niece, auntie, cousin and friend. Alura was born on May 15, 1990 to Barbara Ann Wynn and Douglas Sinoway, she grew up in Thunder Bay.

Alura was predeceased by her father, Douglas Sinoway, grandparents, Harry and Pauline Wynn (Nawagesic), Auntie, Karen Nawagesic, Grandma, Jenny Booth and her dog Missy.

Alura is survived by her mother, Barbara Ann Wynn, siblings Caitlyn Bird, Talon Fire Bird, Crystal Sinoway, DJ Sinoway (Dawnis) and Josh Sinoway. Uncle Roger (Karla), Uncle Robert (Tiffany), Uncle Byron Nawagesic, Aunt Kathryn Kwandibens, Uncle Felix Sinoway and Aunt Gloria Kicknosway (Everette), cousins (Dylan, Brandon, Savannah, William, Blake, Morgan, Onntario, Louanna, Louie and Karen’s Kids) and all her nieces and nephews.

Education was very important to Alura, she was a very dedicated student who worked hard and achieved her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Learning from Lakehead University. She always encouraged her siblings and cousins to continue learning and pursue their education. Working to help her home and other communities was work that was very meaningful and important to her.

In her spare time, Alura loved to attend Pow Wow’s across Turtle Island, with her mom and sister, Caitlyn, their trips were full of laughs and treasured memories and may have at times included some shenanigans, that they couldn’t wait to share with her brother, Talon. She danced women’s traditional and took strong pride in her culture and identity. Other things she enjoyed were reading, watching movies, shopping, travelling the world, hanging with her dog, Max, and going out on the town to support local events with friends.

Alura never missed a beat to let her spirit shine and do what she wanted, when she wanted. Her fierce spirit and peaceful vibes always created a safe space for whoever was lucky enough to come into her life. Her strength and ability to achieve goals were undeniable. Alura was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
