Obituary for Anna Huchenski

Our beloved Mother, Babcia, and PraBabcia passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at the age of 97 with her family at her side on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Anna was born in Romanowka, Poland. She immigrated to Canada with her two children, arriving in Montreal, and subsequently to Fort William in June of 1961 to join her husband Joseph Pylypchuk (married 1948 to 1968). She was a dedicated mother who spent her working years in Housekeeping at Walter Hogarth Memorial Hospital. She ensured that she imparted her wisdom to us and was always giving us advice passing on a love of Polish Culture and her Heritage. She loved to tell stories of her family, life in Poland, and the hardships experienced during World War II. She was thankful and grateful for the Canadian Democratic process. Years after Joseph's passing, Anna married Felix Huchenski in 1972, who died in August 1978.

She was the third oldest daughter of ten siblings and had a great appreciation for family. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, all of whom were her greatest joys in life and are her legacy. She was a faithful member of Corpus Christi Church and the Catholic Women’s League. She was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook who always made too much food. We will miss her cabbage rolls and pierogi. We will cherish the memories she’s left behind and the profound impact she has had on our lives.

The family wishes to thank the Bayshore Nursing staff, the Paramedics, and all staff at the TBRHSC involved with helping our precious Babcia during her short illness. We would also like to express our gratitude to her Family Physician, Dr. James Reid.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Mary Lucas (Stephen, January 15, 2013), son Adam Pilipczuk (Elizabeth, April 13, 2020), her brother Rev. Antoni Fujarczuk, and stepdaughter Helen Ceresino. She will be lovingly remembered by granddaughter Melisande, grandsons Christopher (Samantha), Gregory (Lisa), Brady (Ashleigh) and Andrew (Charles), great-grandchildren Ophelia, Aelise, Jakob, Avery, Ronan and Jaxon.

We take comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with her numerous loved ones who predeceased her. There are things that death cannot touch, and we will remember Anna and our love for her will go on.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Corpus Christi R.C. Church with Rev. Victor DeGagne officiating. Those wishing to attend the service virtually may do so at Sargent and Son Facebook page. Interment at Mountainview Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. with Vigil prayers beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N Court Street. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Anna’s name. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
