Obituary for Anthony Sprovieri

SPROVIERI

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Anthony "Tony" Sprovieri, age 91, on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the T.B.R.H.S.C. with family by his side.

Tony was born in Port Arthur on April 26, 1924, the eldest child of Teresina and Francesco Sprovieri. He attended Cornwall School and Hillcrest High School. In his younger years, Tony enjoyed being involved in sports. He played hockey and was a member of the local weightlifting club. He was also an assistant trainer with his brother Rudy for the Port Arthur Bearcats hockey team. Tony began his career as a street car driver for the City of Port Arthur, followed by a career of over 30 years as an agent for Prudential Insurance. Always keeping busy, Tony spent many years volunteering with the Thunder bay Youth Symphony Orchestra, St. Joseph's Heritage and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #9295 at Corpus Christi Church. Tony enjoyed spending time in his garden in Rosslyn Village. If he wasn't in the garden, you could find him in the kitchen whipping up a batch of his famous meatballs or baking a loaf of his delicious coffee bread. He enjoyed curling with his buddies from the Go-slow curling club, swimming at Volunteer Pool, and catching a good sports game on T.V. Most of all Tony loved spending time with his beloved friends and family. Upon retirement, Tony and his wife Elaine would spend winters in Florida and enjoyed taking numerous holidays to various places with their friends.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Elaine; children Ken Sprovieri, Mark Sprovieri and Teri Groulx; His grandchildren Adam Sprovieri, Paul Groulx, Sarah Sprovieri, Michele Groulx and Angela Sprovieri. Predeceased by his parents Teresina and Francesco; brother Rudy and his sisters Norma Nistico and Anne Laine.

Family and friends will gather Monday, November 9, 2015 at Corpus Christi R.C. Church for the funeral mass beginning at 10:00 am, celebrated by Rev. Alan Albao. A reception will follow, and interment will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Donations can be made to St. Joseph's Foundation or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Corpus Christi Church. Arrangements entrusted to the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.

May positive memories of Tony remain with us always, and may he rest in peace in the presence of God. Amen.
