Obituary for Audrey Helen Johnston (Wilson)

Audrey Johnston died in hospital May 30, 2021. She was born in Niagara Falls March 12, 1921 to Helen (Nell) and Corby Wilson. Corby worked for Hydro, and the only job he could find in 1922 was in Pearl so the family moved there for five years. Her brother Jack was born in Port Arthur in 1927. From Pearl the went to Cameron Falls for twelve years, then to Port Arthur. After high school, Audrey worked at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, where she met Thomas, who she married in 1943. Audrey and Tom had two sons, Robert and William. Audrey worked at the Unemployment Insurance Commission, MacGillivray Ferguson Insurance and in the physiotherapy Department of St. Joseph’s Hospital. When she retired, she and Tom travelled to Texas every winter with Russ and Margie Lawson. After Tom died in 1984, Audrey continued to travel, driving to Florida or to Vancouver Island, where Bob was living. She was supported by a wide circle of friends, with whom she went cross country skiing at Boulevard, or played cutthroat canasta for as much as twenty-five cents. She also took great pleasure in Bill and Janet’s family, Bryan (Erin), Steven (Kim) and Craig (Cassie). The boys were a bit wild, and kept her on her toes. She also kept tabs on Bob’s children Michael (Caroline) and Anna in Victoria. Audrey was predeceased by her parents, husband Tom, brother Jack (Maureen) Wilson, son Bill (Janet) Johnston, and the tight-knit family of Tom’s siblings, Helen (Cyc) Hedge, Cullum Johnston, Margie (Russ) Lawson, Hazel (Don) Eaton, Bessie (Bob) Marshall, Colleen (George) Valliquette. The family wishes to thank Dr. Doiron for her care over the years as well as the staff of P.R. Cook apartments. Cremation has taken place.
