Obituary for Arlene Gale Gatto

It is with immense sadness that our family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Arlene Gatto; our beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and Nonna on Friday, May 4, 2018.

Arlene Gatto was born on March 20, 1957 in Nipigon, Ontario. She lived in various cities throughout her childhood until settling in Thunder Bay. There she met the love of her life Michael in 1977 and was married two years later. In 1980, they welcomed their first son Ryan and six years later Jason completed their family of four.

Arlene's family meant everything to her and was at the heart of every decision she made. There was not one day that went by where she was not thinking of others. She was selfless and always put everyone first. Arlene was the rock of our family who could wipe away a tear or heal any wound. She truly has a heart of gold.

Arlene found the most joy in her life as being a Nonna to her grandchildren where she planned shopping dates, sleepovers and family dinners. She enjoyed travelling with Mike to warm places where she would swim in the ocean, feel the sun on her skin, and the sand between her toes.

Arlene is lovingly remembered by her husband of 39 years Michael, her sons Ryan (Holly), Jason (Lee-Anne Besselt) and her grandchildren Sienna, Sofie, Xavier and Brayden. She is also survived by her father Victor, siblings Diane & Garry, Allen, Evelyn & Elio, Bruce & Laurie, Wayne & Noeline, and Gerry. Arlene will be missed by her brother and sister in laws Frank & Liisa, Susie & Bruce, and Ina & Dan. Arlene relished in her role as an Aunt and will be dearly missed by all of her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Irene, in laws Ernesto & Theresa, and brother in laws Diego & Gary.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018, leaving the Sargent & Son Funeral Home at 11:00 am to St. Anthony's R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:30 am, celebrated by Rev. Victor DeGagne. A private entombment will be held at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with a Vigil Prayer service at 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arlene Gatto Memorial Award at the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board will be greatly appreciated at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/3753

Our world is broken without Arlene but, she will live in our hearts always and forever.
