Obituary for John Engberg
ENGBERG
ENGBERG- Mr. John Engberg age 84 years, a resident of Thunder Bay and formerly of Pass Lake passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018. John was born in Pass Lake, Ontario on November 12, 1933. As a boy he worked picking strawberries to help support his family. At the age of 16 he left to work on the railway, building it. Following his time on the railway, he returned to Pass Lake to help run the family farm. In 1967 he met the love of his life Helga and were married soon after. Following his marriage he decided to further his education and earned his Bachelor of Education and later Special Education. In 1993, John and Helga and their two girls, Sara and Nina, moved to Denmark, Helga's home country. John worked as a teacher in Canada and Denmark for many years, including the two native reserves Bearskin Lake and Sandy Lake which he enjoyed. In 2017, home called and John moved back to Canada to live the remainder of his life.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helga, daughters Sara (Kasper) and Nina, granddaughter Aya and brother Jimmy. He was predeceased by his parents Jakob and Idun Engberg and brother Tom and Franklin Engberg.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 12 at 11:00 am in Salem Lutheran Church, Pass Lake, Ontario with Rev. Arleen Berg presiding. Interment to follow in Pass Lake Cemetery.
