Obituary for Carol Ann Cernjul

Carol Ann Cernjul (nee Dell), born in Port Arthur on December 3, 1945, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, September 17 , 2020. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Mary and Nickolas Dell, and nephew Brian Dell.

Carol will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Romano; children Mark (Sarah), and Alana (Scott); adoring granddaughters Jenna & Taylor Cernjul; and devoted sister and brother, Sharon (Jose) Fernandez, and Bill (Isobel) Dell. Carol will also be fondly remembered by sister-in-law Pijerina Cernjul, brother-in-law Vince (Gen) Cernjul, nieces and nephews Natalia & Andrew Fernandez, Christopher & Ashley Dell, Chelsea & Kevin Cernjul, Loredana & Walter Cernjul, and families. Many friends, coworkers and neighbours will miss Carol’s friendly nature and joyful laugh.

Carol was a devoted, loving wife, Mom, Baba, sister and aunt, who always put her family first and would generously sacrifice her time for anyone in need. She found great joy playing BINGO with her granddaughters and teaching them the ways of the kitchen. Carol always took care of her family and friends with TLC in every meal that she served. She loved family gatherings and seeing everyone laugh together. Carol thoroughly enjoyed her 32 years working at St. Joseph’s Care Group as a Dietary Supervisor. She made many dear and life-long friends there and was respected by all the staff. The care and attention she gave to her work, always putting patients first, did not go unnoticed. She was known for having lucky streaks playing her favourite machines at the Grand Portage Casino, and was always generous with her winnings.

Carol will be remembered by close family and friends when they gather to say their final farewell.

The family would like to thank all of those involved in Carol’s care over the past year: Dr. K. Simpson, Dr. A. Chan & Dr. K. Ramchandar, and cancer clinic staff; Dr. D. Garon, family physician; all of the nurses and staff on 1A at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital; Donna Martin, RN, and all the staff at Bayshore Home Health.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the TBRHSC Northern Cancer Fund or St. Joseph’s Care Centre are appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
