Obituary for Carole Lillian Lewicky
Carole Lillian Lewicky (nee Sutherland)
It is with deep sadness that the family of Carole Lillian LEWICKY announce her passing on May 4, 2022 at T.B.R.H.S.C. at the age of 82. Carole was born on March 12, 1940 in Port Arthur to Hilpa and Frederick Sutherland. As a youth she lived in Northern British Columbia and Vancouver before returning to the Thunder Bay area. Carole spent most of her life as a bookkeeper at many local business before retiring and opening her own business, Custom Bookkeeping. Carole was a hard worker, even continuing to work on taxes until last week. Some of Carole's happiest moments involved spending her summers with family at the cottage she built with her late husband, Floyd, at Shebandowan Lake. There she tended to her numerous gardens that were always filled with beautiful lilies and other colourful flowers. Carole was an avid volunteer in the community, she frequently volunteered her time in the library at the 55 Plus Centre and with Trinity United Church. Later in life Carole found great comfort and companionship from her partner, Arnold O'Keefe. Together they enjoyed concerts and theatre productions at Magnus Theatre. They travelled extensively through Canada, the US and Great Britain together.
Family was important to Carole. Early in life she got into lots of wholesome mischief with her cousins, where her brother was often the victim. She loved to tell lots of stories from these times. Her Christmas dinners will be fondly remember by the family, as her house was always super festive and full of joy. She loved to stay updated with what was happening in her family and she was very proud of their accomplishments. Facebook was made for Carole, she was always checking in with her family & friends. Her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews had a special relationship with their aunt and she was always finding ways to be involved in their lives.
Life threw Carole many challenges but Carole was always able to find the strength to live her best life. She will be remembered for her generosity, her fierce independence, her toughness in the face of adversity and her unconditional love.
Carole is survived by her son Jeff (Donna) Lewicky, her brother Ralph (Pirjo) Sutherland, grandchildren Jordan Lewicky and Jodi Bjorklund, her niece Sandra (Patrick) Byers, her nephews: David Sutherland (Kerry Walker) and Stephen (Leanne) Sutherland, grandniece Maija Sutherland and grandnephews: Scott Byers, Rowan Sutherland & Cooper Sutherland. Carole was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Lewicky; her parents Hilpa Vesa (Peuhkuri) and Frederick Sutherland; her step-father, Elmer Vesa; her brother, Rudy Sutherland in infancy and her daughter, Brenda Lewicky.
The family would like to extend a thank you to her partner, Arnold, for his care and compassion during these difficult times.
