Obituary for Curtis Frederick Ulysse DeGagne

Curtis Frederick Ulysse DeGagne

Curtis DeGagne, 53 passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 21st in Lumby, B.C.

Curtis was born in Thompson Manitoba on June 26, 1969 moving to Atikokan later that year when his family relocated to work at Steep Rock Iron Mines.
Curt spent his entire life living in Atikokan and attended St. Patrick’s School and Atikokan High School. As a teenager he helped his parents build Finlayson Resort. His charismatic charm, twinkling eyes and infectious smile gave him the ability to forge relationships with everyone he met.
Curt was employed for Atikokan Forest Products for many years until it closure. In recent years he moved on to his career as a boilermaker. He held this new experience with pride and the relationships he made with fellow Boilermaker Brothers were dear to his heart. He was so proud to welcome Zandre into the Boilermaker brotherhood.

He loved the outdoors and was a natural at finding the fishing holes on Finlayson Lake. Curt was happiest when he was out at his camp on Finlayson and was doing renovations and landscaping to make this his retirement home. He enjoyed hunting and setting up his camp in the fall. Curt had an entrepreneurial spirit and tried a few business ventures like Paintball, White Otter Wilderness and fledgling campgrounds.

Curtis was always proud of his family and friends but one of his proudest moments was when his son Cody presented him with his 1st grandchild, a granddaughter Audrey. Little Miss Audrey Rose was the apple of Grampys eye. He loved spending time with her and playing at the lake.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 32 years, Sabrina, his sons Cody and Zandre and his Granddaugther Audrey.
Curtis will forever hold a special place in the heart of his Mother Doris DeGagne, siblings Kim Cross (Lanny), Brian (Corina), Mark (Shelley), Mother in Law Carol Koroscil, Brother in Law Jonathan Lusignan (Karen), and many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Curtis is predeceased by his Father Roger DeGagne, Father in law Keith Lusignan, and sister in law Bev Rodney.

When I come to the end of the horizon
And enter the other shore
Remember me for those smiling eyes.
Don’t cry for me any more.

I have found my final resting place
That special spot to fish
Remember the times we shared
You too, I will forever miss

This is the journey I must take,
and I must go alone
To be with the ones I miss
I will never be alone.

To a special fishing hole
For fishermen like me
I know that there’s a bass boat waiting
and a 150 merc for me

Remember me with fondness
The memories in your mind
You know I will be hoisting walleyes
There is no other kind.

I promise we will fish again
You know I couldn’t stay
Close your eyes and think of me
I won’t be far away

There will be a special day
We both know it is true
Knowing that the greatest catch
Is me seeing you.
