Obituary for Donald Robert Esarik

We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
But all we have are memories
But no one knows the heartache
As we turn and leave you there.
On your one year anniversary we miss you dearly.

Lovingly remembered by Bev, Shane, Ashley (Logan) and precious grandson Emerson

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the sudden passing of our loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather Don Esarik, who died in his home among family on January 25, 2023.

Don was born to Peter and Mary and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Although he was not fond of dancing, he met the love of his life, Bev, at one of the city’s well-known Saturday night dances at the Legion. They married in the summer of 1972 and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The highlight of their marriage was the birth of their son, Shane and daughter, Ashley, both of whom he was very proud of. Don’s main interest was his family: he enjoyed spending time with his grandson; cooking alongside indoor dining with close family and friends; viewing sports, comedy sketches and discussing the latest Marvel film. Travelling was another passion he shared with his wife. Together they have travelled to many destinations within Canada, the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean.

When you think of Don, his quiet and warm demeanor comes to mind. He was a wise, caring, and considerate man with a good sense of humour who could always laugh at himself. Those who knew him understood he always appreciated the value of a “good deal”. He was strong-willed but soft-hearted and selfless who possessed an excellent work ethic. He was deeply meticulous about shoveling the snow and cutting the grass. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in those who loved him.

He is predeceased by his mother, father, and three brothers. He is survived by his loving wife, Bev, his devoted children, Shane, and Ashley (Logan) and beautiful grandson, Emerson.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Jim Scali who has been our family doctor for many years.

As per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends.

If friends so desire donations may be made to a local animal shelter or a charity of your choice.
