Donald Malcolm Henderson, age 79, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at T.B. Regional Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, with family by his side.
Donald was born in Russell, Ontario. He was the eldest son of Walter and Marguerite Henderson and big brother to Nancy Poitras and Margaret Henderson. Don was raised and schooled in Russell and Ottawa, Ontario. Upon completion of high school, the family moved to Toronto. Donald joined the Ontario Police Force and upon graduating was posted to the Nipigon detachment. After serving a number of years on the OPP, Donald resigned and then purchased and operated a lumber and hardware store in Red Rock. After several years in business Don sold the hardware store and moved to Thunder Bay and worked for the City of Thunder Bay. He also attended Lakehead University, earning a degree in religious philosophy.
Don is survived by his wife Gail, sons Greg, James, and Malcolm, daughter Paula, and sisters Nancy Poitras and Margaret Henderson.
After a lengthy illness, Don passed away. Thank you to the doctors and nursing staff of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences for their care and compassion in treating Don.
A family interment service will take place at a later date. Contributions to the charity of choice may be made in Don’s memory.
