Obituary for Donald Kenneth Maunula

MAUNULA- Mr. Donald Kenneth Maunula, age 81 years, passed away at Lakehead Manor on Thursday, December 31, 2015. Donald was born in Port Arthur on March 13, 1934, the son of Andrew and Tyyne Maunula and was a lifetime resident. As a young man he worked with his brothers in the bush camps and building the highway to the border. He later worked for many years with his father at the family Texaco on the Nipigon Highway. Following his father’s passing Donald served as his mother’s primary caregiver. He enjoyed going for walks and watching sports on television. A man of strong Christian Faith, Donald was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church for many years before becoming a member of F.E.L.M. At the age of 3 he suffered a stroke but Donald managed to overcome all of the challenges presented by this setback and outlived all of his doctors predictions. He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Allan, Paul (Pat), Arnold (Jewel), Marvin (Gisele) and Norman (Sandra), sisters Shirley (Robert) Hand and Eileen (Chris) Mikkelsen, sisters-in-law Elvie, Mary Ellen and Erna as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Frank, Laurie and Neil, sister-in-law Elsie Maunula and nephews Harvey Maunula, Terry Hand and Cody Maunula. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Donald Maunula will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Pastor Jorma Tuomisto of F.E.L.M. presiding. The inurnment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy memorials to F.E.L.M. or the Lutheran Community Care Centre (Pastoral Care) would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
