Obituary for Donald Thomas Elston Sutton

It is with immense sadness that the family of Donald T. E. Sutton announces his passing on Dec. 18, 2022, at home. He will be greatly missed by many. Unfortunately, his grand dog walking days have ended, though Ranger still waits at the window for his 1:00 pm pick-up. Don had a goal to outlive his rusting Dodge Journey; alas, his own body gave out first. He was a most pleasant, well-respected, loyal, kind, and strong family man. He lived a full and rewarding professional life as a Chartered Accountant. Over the years, his activities included volunteer associations with the CNIB, Kinsmen, Toastmasters, children’s sports leagues, plus many curling and golf tournaments. He loved travel and had some unique adventures. A camp (cottage) on Lac des Mille Lacs demanded time for both summer fun and the constantly developing “build, repair and preserve” skills necessary to share and enjoy such a beautiful setting. Playing pool, following the Raptors, and doing challenging Sudoku became recent important winter pastimes. Family was top priority. Don was very proud of his family and a little more time together would have been great!
“We laughed until we had to cry, we loved right down to our last good-bye. We were the best!” (St. Elmos Fire).

Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years Pamela (Foster) Sutton, sons Jeffrey R. E. Sutton (Stacey) of Calgary and Paul C. Sutton (Laura) of Thunder Bay; grandchildren Madelaine and Liam Sutton of Calgary and Owen and Charlotte Sutton of Thunder Bay; brothers Barry (Caroline) of Toronto and Ross (Brenda) of London; sister Laurie (Johan) Janzen of Burnaby B.C.; sisters-in-law Percy Sutton of Thunder Bay and Jan Mason of Surrey B.C.; brothers-in-law Don (Elfy) and Jay Foster of Thunder Bay and Manfred (Darlene) Rossdeutscher of Langley, B.C.; and many nieces and nephews located throughout Canada.

Don was predeceased by parents Thomas and Audrey Sutton, brother Brent (Doc) Sutton of Thunder Bay, sister Linda (Sutton) Rossdeutscher of B.C., parents-in-law Les and Alice Foster of Thunder Bay, and nephew Dr. David Mason, PhD, of Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The family invites friends to attend a memorial service honouring Don at Sargent & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed via Sargent & Son's Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to the CNIB, Humane Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Thank you in advance.
