It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ernesto Pucci announces his passing at the tender age of 88 at Pioneer Ridge on the morning of October 11, 2023.
Ernesto was born to Michele and Anna Pucci on November 8, 1934, in the quaint town of Grimaldi, Italy. Ernesto’s story of perseverance, strength and dedication to family is unrivalled. Ernesto lost his father at the young age of 11 years old, took up the mantle of sustaining his mother and four sisters. Shortly after the loss of his father, Anna (mother) and Ernesto made their way to Canada with the family in 1953. It is from these very humble beginnings that the strong sense of hard work, family, faith, and support from other newcomers allowed Ernesto to prosper. Ernesto was deeply entrenched in his Italian heritage and culture, as he greatly appreciated the families of Italians that created a supportive community.
While settling in Thunder Bay, Ernesto met the love of his life, Maria. Together, they shared a bond of love and dedication to each other for over 50 Years. Ernesto and Maria raised their own family of four children, and later helped raise their six grandchildren.
Ernesto was a hardworking man of many talents. He worked on the railway, he was an arborist, and he worked construction before finally commencing his lifelong career with the City of Thunder Bay where he retired in 1999. Many knew Ernesto as the machine operator for the Parks Division, who was always cutting grass, taking care of outdoor rinks and manicuring shrubs at the various parks in the city. In his pastime, Ernesto loved fishing, hunting, the outdoors, tending to his garden, and spending time with his wife, family, and grandchildren.
Ernesto is lovingly remembered by his children Mike (Suzanne), Sergio (Holly), Nick (Laura), son-in-law Rob Kowalchuk, and also his grandchildren Justin, Mitchell, Brittany, Katelyn, Milana, and Michael.
Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed by his sisters Rosaria (Antonio) Bennardo, and Maria (Guiseppe) Sanzo. He is also survived and will be lovingly remembered by in-laws: Guerino Mantello and Ettore Vecchio, Antonio (Elizabeth) Pucci, Frank (Laura) Pucci, and Nella (Orlando) Coccimigilio. Also left to mourn are many nieces and nephews, godchildren, cousins, and close friends that will deeply miss him.
Ernesto will now be re-united with the love of his life Maria and only daughter Anna Pucci-Kowalchuk. Ernesto will also reunite with his parents Anna and Michele along with his mother and father in-law Rosaria and Nicola, his sisters Guiseppina Vecchio, Emma Mantello, brother/sister in – law Emilia and Guiseppe Foresta, along with many other relatives who he has missed dearly.
The family extends their gratitude to Doctors David Probizanski and John Coccimigilio. The family is also grateful for the wonderful staff at Pioneer Ridge that showed great compassion and love to Ernesto during his short stay. “Papa Pucci” will miss you.
