Obituary for Hannu Mononen

It is with deep sadness that the family of Hannu Veli Emerik Mononen announces his passing on December 7, 2022 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at the age of 52.

Hannu was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. Hannu was a great family man, nothing meant more to him than his family. His two children Brenden and Kayla, Grandson Nikko, and his partner Tammy brought him so much joy in his life. He loved nothing more than spending quality time with his family, whether being get togethers, phone calls, or that hot cup of coffee with friends. His sense of humour was contagious and so was his smile - you couldn't be around him without a good hard laugh, which was definitely something he passed down to both his children. All of his friends, family and coworkers loved him very much and will miss him dearly.

Hannu loved camping at Dog Lake with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, any outdoor activities and a good, never-hot-enough sauna. Hannu spent many years working in the forestry industry in which he thrived, and made many friends along the way. There wasn’t anything that could be broken around him that he couldn't fix. He passed this special talent down to his son Brenden. His recent line of work was highway maintenance and snowplowing, where he would always be "chasing the snowflakes.”

Hannu is lovingly remembered by : his son Brenden Mononen (daughter in law Asha and grandson Nikko), daughter Kayla (Travis) and their mother Shannon Redden; longtime life partner Tammy; brother Ira (wife Frances), sister Raija (husband Paul), nephew Steve (wife Tina and children Briella, Milly and Soen), niece Jennifer (husband Tony); and many, many friends. He was predeceased by: his father Leo Mononen, his mother Liisa Mononen, and his sisters Reija and Raini (Tuula) Mononen.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Sargent & Son Funeral Home with interment following in Riverside Cemetery.
