Obituary for Heinrich Asmus

Our Dad, Pappa-Man, Opa, Heinrich, Heinz, Henry, Onkel Heinz, age 83, died peacefully on February 14, 2022 in his home at PR Cook Apartments in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Heinrich was born in Lippstadt, Germany on March 14, 1938, the only child of Adolf Asmus and Theresia Niggemeier. He will be sadly missed by son Andreas (Alyson), daughter Lydia (Glenn) and his granddaughters Césan and Alix (Tyson). Also missed by his sister-in-law Gertrud Wolke (Josef), his nieces and nephews Barbara, Annegret, Hildegard, Thomas, Susanna and Patrick. Heinrich is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Christine Elisabeth (January 2022), his parents Adolf Asmus (1944) and Theresia Asmus (1972), and his first granddaughter Tye Christine (1992). He will be remembered for his commitment to providing for his family, strong work ethic as a tool designer and his pride in both his children and grandchildren. Dad liked life best at home enjoying listening to classical music; eating Mom’s homemade meals; tending his aquarium of tropical plants and fish, watching those fish for hours; using his carpentry skills to finish basements in the homes we lived in; designing and landscaping the yard with shrubs and bushes; and, learning how pianos worked while teaching himself to play. As his hearing failed, Dad continued to be curious, enjoying jigsaw puzzles, reading about space and the natural world, and how things worked. Dad will be remembered for sitting in the shade of trees he planted in the yard, going for walks with his dear wife Christine and dog Terra, helping his son and daughter with projects around their homes, spending time with his granddaughters, looking forward to fishing with his son and enjoying a great meal. A private gathering of family and friends to honour Heinrich was held on Thursday February 17, 2022 at Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel in Thunder Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
