Obituary for Helen Keenan (Kuusela)

Helen Keenan, age 94 years, a resident of Southbridge Roseview and former long time resident of Suomi Koti, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Helen was born in Port Arthur, Ontario to Finnish immigrant parents Sanni and Nick Kuusela. Growing up during the depression she learned about hard work and the value of a dollar. She worked various jobs including waitressing at the Hoito restaurant. After marrying in 1948 she concentrated on raising her family.

After many years Helen re-entered the work force. She was hired by Zeller's County Fair in 1970, and after 24 years of loyal and dedicated service, she retired in 1994. After retirement she concentrated on looking after her grandson Nicholas and volunteering for Suomi Koti Ladies' Auxiliary. Mom was an excellent cook with an outstanding talent for baking. Her cakes and cookies were always snapped up during the many bake sales at Suomi Koti.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Nick and Sanni Kuusela, daughter Sharon (1968), son Gary (2015), and nephew Lloyd Niemi (1973).

Helen is lovingly remembered by her twin sister Wilma Niemi, daughter Donna Andreychuk (Rob), son Kevin, grandson Nicholas Andreychuk, granddaughters Kristi, Kelly, and Stacey, niece Charlotte Gould, 5 great-grandchildren, and many relatives in Finland.

As per Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.

Donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Thunder Bay or to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cheshire Wing at Roseview for the care and compassion showed to Helen over the last three years.
