Life Story for Ingo Roetscher

It is with deep sorrow and loss that we say goodbye to Ingo Roetscher who passed away suddenly on May 10, 2015 at the young age of 77. He was visiting his twin sister, Ingrid, in Edmonton, when he had a massive heart attack and died later that day in the University of Alberta hospital, with Ingrid by his side.

He will forever be remembered lovingly by his partner of almost 25 years, Cindy Cockell. Together they travelled the world, from the depths of the South Pacific on the wrecks of Truk Lagoon, to the top of the world skiing at Whistler-Blackcomb and hiking in Denali, Alaska.

He was one of 6 children born to Wolfgang & Erika in the tiny town of Reesor. His parents had emigrated from Estonia to homestead in the wilds of Northern Ontario. They built a log cabin and made a life for their family along with many other immigrant families in very harsh conditions. Ingo was born on July 28, 1937 just after his twin sister Ingrid.

Ingo worked as a fishing guide, a tobacco harvester and cutting trees in the bush near Kapuskasing before joining the OPP April 6, 1964. He had a long and rewarding career with the OPP, retiring September 30, 1993 as a Sargent and head of the ride program. He always said 'retirement is the best job I ever had'. Since retiring he enjoyed life outdoors: gardening, biking, sailing, skiing, kayaking, riding his quad with his friend Terry, SCUBA diving locally as well as in the Caribbean and South Pacific, travelling to many destinations in Canada and the US. He still had so many more places to visit on his bucket list. He was also an avid photographer.

Ingo was pre-deceased by his parents, Wolfgang & Erika Roetscher; his sister, Marg Sainio and her husband Reino; his sister, Ilse St. John; his sister, Ursula Flesher; his brother Horst Roetscher.

He is survived by his partner, Cindy Cockell; his twin sister, Ingrid Sabatier (Edmonton); his brother-in-law, Stan Flesher (Victoria Harbour, S. Ontario); his brother-in-law, Bill St. John (Vernon BC); his sister-in-law, Denice Roetscher (Ottawa). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families in Canada and the US.

Cremation took place in Edmonton. His ashes will be scattered at a later time in the place of his choosing.

A celebration of his life will take place on Monday, May 25 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Sargent and Son Funeral Home on 21 N. Court St. in Thunder Bay, followed by a reception in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Salvation Army 545 Cumberland St N, Thunder Bay, ON P7A 4S2, The Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) 570 Syndicate Ave S, Thunder Bay, ON P7E 1K2, or any food bank would be appreciated.
