Obituary for Jane Edgson

With deep sorrow, the family of Jane Edgson announces her passing on December 18, 2022, after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Jane was born in Kingston, ON on July 1st of 1954 to her parents David Coulson and Patricia Tetley. She moved to Port Arthur as a young child when her father began his practice at the Port Arthur Clinic.

After graduating from Hammarskjold High School, Jane enrolled in the Nursing program at the University of Manitoba, only to learn that nursing was not for her. She then decided to enter into the Medical Laboratory Technology program at McKellar Hospital. Jane enjoyed a 30-year career as a medical laboratory technologist, working first at the McKellar Hospital Laboratory, and then at the Public Health Laboratory where she specialized in microbiology, and made many long and lasting friendships.

It was at McKellar Hospital that Jane met her husband of 38 years, Frank. They were married on December 29, 1984.

Jane was the calming effect on the family as her 3 children and 2 step-children can attest. Like her mother before her, Jane was happiest when she was at the family camp on Two Island Lake with all the kids and grandkids around her.

She will be best remembered for her love of reading, proper grammar and spelling, her good nature and sense of humour, and for her love of clipboards as was well known by her co-workers at the Public Health Lab.

Jane always appreciated her get-togethers with her high school girlfriends Ritva, Charlene, Maureen and others. She also enjoyed catching up with all the retired lab technologists when they gathered for lunches.

When she retired, Jane was able to begin traveling. First to Florida to escape the winter and visit with Charlene, and then to take several cruises with her family to the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

Jane was predeceased by her mother Patricia Coulson. She is survived by her husband Frank, her three children Tom (Crystal), James (Jen Buob), Steve, and step-children Adelle (Mike Rigo) and Keith (Heather), her granddaughter Joey, step-grandchildren Wyatt, Sadie, MacKenzie, Sydney, Keira, and her "grandchildren of the heart" Chloe, Piper, and Landyn. Also left to mourn her is her father, Dr. David Coulson (Beverley), her three sisters Anne Zuliani (Raymond), Mary Gardam (John), and Rev. Susan Ivany (Peter), step-sister Dr. Rosemary Wilson (Jim Colquhoun) and step-brother George Wilson (Kerri Harris), as well as her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a large extended family. Jane will also be missed by her miniature dachshund, Max.

The family extends its deep gratitude to Dr. Zavagnin, Dr. Chan, and the staff of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Regional Cancer Care and Unit 1A for their compassionate care.

A celebration of Jane's life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022 in the chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street.
