Obituary for Kathleen Mary Whatley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen “Kay” Whatley (Wilson) at the age of 94.

Mom was born in Port Arthur, on June 21st, 1928 to parents Jack and Mary Wilson. She attended local schools and graduated from the St. Joseph's Nursing program in 1949.

Shortly after graduation mom met Richard Whatley, a strapping young firefighter who swept her off her feet. Mom and Dad shared 54 years of marriage until Dad's passing in 2007.

Mom had a long career in nursing, beginning with years at St Joseph's Hospital, then to the Lakehead University School of Nursing and finally at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. Even while living at Hogarth, her home for the past 5 years, she would often be found giving direction to the PSW's and nursing staff on her floor. A lifelong and passionate RN till the end. Sewing, knitting and creating special porcelain dolls were among her pastimes and she excelled in all of these areas. Often, we would receive a beautiful handmade Christmas or birthday gift made with love; these are now left for us to cherish her memory.

We cannot say enough about the wonderful staff on 7 South at Hogarth. The love, care and compassion given to our mother will never be forgotten. Sharleen, Zelda, Ian and Mohsen in particular are to be commended for their exceptional work and commitment to Mom.

Predeceased by her husband Richard (Dick), son Brian, her constant companion for many years Cricket, father and mother Jack and Mary Wilson, sister Marjorie, in-laws Charles and Emily Whatley.

Kathleen will be missed by her children and their families: Marilyn (Jean-Louis Brusset, Michael (Debra) Whatley, Bruce Whatley and daughter-in-law Beverly (Alan) Andrews. Missing their Gramma are grandchildren Geoffrey (Brittany) Whatley, Denis Brusset, Stephanie (Scott) Rea, Jacqueline (Adam) Brusset, Chelsea (Jordan) Geddert, Matthew Whatley, Rebecca (Nick) Quelch, Samantha, Shane and Jason Whatley, and their families.

As per Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A service will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Sargent Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gordon Holroyd officiating. Should you desire, a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Society Canada, in mom's memory would be greatly appreciated https://muscle.ca. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
