Sadly, we announce that Larry Edward Joseph passed away in the early morning hours of January 30th, 2018 at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Born April 12th, 1946 in Westfort, Larry taught for a short time at Lakehead University before relocating to Ottawa to obtain his masters in Political Science and on to London, Ontario for his masters in Library Science. From there he began his career working firstly at the Library in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and then moved back to Thunder Bay and worked here in several libraries ending his career at the Thunder Bay Public Library.
In his younger years he worked as a lifeguard at various city pools. In addition, he maintained the pools he worked at. It was at Heath Park pool where he met and later married the love of his life, Karletta McKelvie. Swimming was always a very important part of their lives. They were married for 44 years.
Larry was a very well respected, intelligent and charismatic man who was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was passionate about reading, travelling and loved debating current affairs.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Karletta, son David (Katherine), daughters Tracy Burke and Amy Joseph. He will terribly miss watching his grandchildren James and Anna Joseph and Addison and Lily Burke grow up. He also leaves behind his brothers Tom (Margo), Terry (Bonnie) and sisters-in-law Edna Finke, Nancy McKelvie and Carole Goldenstein, brother-in-law Archie (Jocelyn) and their families. Larry was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Cora Joseph, brother Bob and brother-in-law Herman Finke.
Larry was very appreciative of the excellent care he received during his lengthy illness, and a special thanks to the nursing staff at HRM 7 south.
As per his wishes there will be no formal service. A family dinner will be held at a later date. If anyone so desires, donations may be made in remembrance of Larry to the Parkinson Society of Canada or the Alzheimer Society. Arrangements entrusted to the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N.
