Condolence From: Darren Wright
Condolence: I remember as a young boy hanging out at Lorne's shop all the time talking and telling stories about our two favorite things, fishing and hockey. He always made time for me no matter how busy he was. Lorne also was the one who introduced me to steelhead fishing. Throughout my childhood years he would let me tag along on many fishing trip. He taught me how to become a better angler. Lorne was in a way my menter and if it wasn't for him I don't know if I would be where I am today. It was a sad day when I heard about Lorne's passing. His memories and big smile will never be forgotten. Tightlines to you Lorne, you will be missed. My condolences go out to the intire family.

Condolence From: Tom Whalley
Condolence: It's been over 40 years since my dad first took me to Lorne's shop, but I remember it vividly - a big smile, a big laugh and a memorable warmth. Many afternoons were spent in Lorne's company in my youth, rummaging through tackle bins and pouring over photo albums, listening to stories and telling a few, as well. I was fortunate to have spent some days on the river with Lorne, and fondly recall many an evening spent around the dinner table on Nicol Island with Lorne, Hank, Andre and Bart, talking of Hockey and Steelhead. Lorne was a real Gentleman, a friend to the community and to my family; he will be greatly missed. Tight lines, Lorne ! Save a little room on the river for me ... Tom Whalley

Condolence From: Laurie Tomes Lorenowich
Condolence: Jean, When I think of Lorne, I think of camp and all the wonderful years spent by the lake. Our families shared many summers in and on the water, on the beaches, riding our bikes on the dirt roads and trails, all the blueberries we picked and marshmallows we roasted over many campfires. My sisters and I grew up with your kids under Lorne's watchful eye. My Mom and Dad always talked about Lorne and how interesting he was; such great stories. My mom still talks about buying that motor from Lorne and canoeing over every weekend with a $10 bill tucked in her smim top to pay for it. So sorry for your loss but I know my dad and Lorne are talking about camp right now and smiling down on us. Lots of love and hugs from the Tomes' and Lorenowich families

Condolence From: Geoff Coleman
Condolence: Dear Jean, Ross, Michelle, Lorna, Janice, Brent: I was saddened to hear about Lorne. I was thinking of him a lot recently while friends of mine here went through the process of opening a tackle shop, and I bored them many times with stories about how great it was working at Lorne's store. The afternoon of December 24th was always the best, with lots of customers dropping in for last minute gifts or just to wish everyone well. You guys probably didn't really have to keep me on while I was in university, but I'm sure glad you did. I don't remember him ever turning down someone looking for a donation whether it was for the smallest stag or a large community event. Lorne was nothing if not tough, and I remember some great stories relating to that. There was one in particular where he spent one day doing something like playing in two football games and then entering and winning the 10-mile road race the next day (running in his boxing shoes or something equally insane). Of all his accomplishments though, supporting a big family (I know I left out one daughter in my greeting) as an independent businessman has to be most impressive. That, and the way he could rally support for projects like the various NSSA initiatives, or the buildings put up around Thunder Bay athletic fields. He was a great guy - not perfect - but an awesome boss, and a great mentor to many through his time spent coaching and his community involvement.
