Obituary for Lloyd Carlson

CARLSON- Lloyd passed away peacefully and into the arms of his loving Saviour on Oct. 1, 2018 at Bethammi Nursing Home.

He was born Aug 19, 1924 on his mom’s 18th birthday. He fondly remembers growing up in his small Swedish farming community near North Bay. Family, love, community, hard work and faith were to be the foundation on which he built his life.

Lloyd was the oldest of 9 children. At 16 he left the security of home and headed north to the isolated community of Cameron Falls to
begin his career with Ontario Hydro. His goal was to help support the family. He leaves behind 4 devoted siblings; Paul, Alan, David and Esther.

He was married to his soul mate May (nee Wilson) for nearly 60 years. Together they raised and nurtured Tim (Sue), Grant (Robin) and Jan (Dave Westerback).
Grandchildren Jeff (Brooke), Julie (Michael), Andrew (Kamila), Alyssa, Michelle and Isaac were swept along with whatever passion FarFar (MorFar) was pursuing at the moment. He is also survived by his beloved great grandchildren: Hannah, Elizabeth, Palmer, Jonas and Margot.

Lloyd was a man of many passions. He retired from Hydro at 58 but never did learn to sit still. He infected family and friends with his love of cross country skiing and was an annual participant in the Sibley Ski tour. (He skied his last Loppet at 86). Lloyd loved his trees and every spring planted hundreds of red pine on his various properties. He sold a small forest of Christmas trees every December. He was passionate about his Lord and Saviour and worshipped at First Baptist church for all his adult life. Here he formed his closest, lifelong friendships. Together, this group enjoyed many travel adventures and countless celebrations.

After May passed away in 2009, dementia quickly set in. He lost his memory, he couldn’t figure things out, he learned to sit. He became sweeter, softer and was thankful for every small kindness given to him. He continued to adore chocolate and ice cream til his last days.

He was so well loved, and loved so well.

Many, many thanks to the staff at Bethammi Nursing Home for the gentle, loving care over the last year and especially in his last days.
