Obituary for Maimie Rachel Nurmi

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Maimie Rachel Nurmi on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Pioneer Ridge.

Maimie was born on May 21, 1926 and was a lifelong resident of the Thunder Bay area. She devoted her life to her home and family. In her early years, she enjoyed spending time at the family camp at Shebandowan and go-ing on fishing trips. Maimie and her husband Edwin also traveled to numerous southern locations over the years. Her loving, generous, good-natured personality will be greatly missed. She was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed making meals for her family and friends. A loving mother and grandmother, she was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by son Ron (Judy) Nurmi, daughters Lorraine (Dan) Repo and Glenda (Peter) Friske, her grandchildren Calvin , Derek (Michella), Karina (Birch), Andrea (John), Julia (Fred), Christine (Mike). Maimie leaves behind three great grandchildren Sage, Max and Ben, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Edwin in 1994, parents Onni and Ida Aho, sister Sylvia (Harry) and brother Toivo (Hazel), in addition to other family members.

As per Maimie’s request, a private family service will take place at a later date with Rev. Neil Otke officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com
