Obituary for Margaret Doreen "Doreen" Wilson (McKerr)

WILSON- Mrs. Margaret “Doreen” Wilson, age 87 years, passed away peacefully in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Friday, March 4, 2016. Doreen was born on September 19, 1928 in Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, the 3rd of 6 children of the late Richard and Maude McKerr. She was trained as a cook and after her father’s passing she ran the family business. In 1957 she married William Wilson and shortly thereafter immigrated to Port Arthur. Doreen worked at McNulty’s Store before taking a job at Eaton’s where she started in Ladies Wear before taking the position of Manager of the Eaton’s Restaurant “The Marine Room”. She was an active member and Elder of Calvin Presbyterian Church, where she also sang in the choir, a member at the 55 Plus Centre and New Connections Group and was a longtime volunteer at the P.A. General Hospital. Doreen will be lovingly remembered by her brother Desmond McKerr, sister Felicity McCartney as well as by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband William. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Doreen Wilson will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvin Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ken Haggerty presiding. A reception at the Sargent Family Reception Centre will follow the service in the church. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA- Northwestern Ontario) would be appreciated.
