A little girl from the corner of Secord & John street

We all have our stories and special moments when Mario touched our life's. Mine was over 50 years ago, as a little girl on Second street. In those days we use to get milk delivered to our houses and the red Bennet's bakery van would deliver bread and sweets. Well it was my birthday and my mother had given me a quarter for a Sally Ann. ( I think there $2.00 now but I degress ), A small mini cake, covered with chocolate icing and filled with cream. My favorite! I patiently waited in the front porch. When the van stopped in front of our house, I ran outside, all excited. I told Mario it was my birthday and that my mother had given me money for a sweet, "A Sally-Anne". I held out my hand with the quarter, he folded my fingers over the quarter and said "Keep it" and winked his left eye. He went to the back of the van and pulled out a whole box of Sally-Anns and gave them to me. "Happy Birthday", I gave him a big hug. Those were a lot simpler times and for a little girl that was a huge gesture. One that has stayed with me all these years. I don't live in Thunder Bay any more, however every time I come back, I stop at the bakery and pick up Persians and Sally-anns. Mario, Thanks for the memories From a little girl from the corner of Secord and John street. Julie (Ruberto) Palmer
