Maureen Theresa Bruni was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world unexpectedly on Monday, October 3, 2022 at the age of 87 years young. She was born in Port Arthur, Ontario to Constance and Herbert McKeown on March 29, 1935. After graduating high school, Maureen met the love of her life, Peter Bruni. Shortly thereafter they were married and had four children – Lynn, Brian, David and Peter.
Maureen decided to re-enter the work force when her youngest son started kindergarten. Her part time job at C.D. Howe Limited quickly became her full-time job as a bookkeeper until retirement. Upon retiring Maureen and Peter took on the yearly title of “Snowbirds”. Maureen was an avid reader, knitter and crime show watcher – Breaking Bad and Ray Donovan being her top two. In the early years of her retirement, Maureen had some setbacks which thus started her cancer journey. For the strength and courage, she demonstrated, the family eventually was able to crown her as a four-time cancer survivor.
Maureen was a very proud grandmother to four grandchildren, who called her “Nanny”. From there on in, Maureen was always referred to as Nan. Nanny and Papas house was the place to be. Nan could never say no to a sleepover with her grandchildren. Nan loved time with all her family and enjoyed by regularly hosting Sunday dinners, which continues as a family tradition. Nan was most famous for her meatballs and holiday stuffing.
In 2018, after 63 years of marriage Maureen lost her life partner Peter, which left her with a broken heart.
Nan will lovingly be remembered and dearly missed by her four children – Lynn (Ralph) Stewart, Brian Bruni, David Bruni - Lesley, and Peter (Elena) Bruni Jr., grandchildren Taylor (Leah) Stewart, Allie Stewart (Cameron), Preston and Peyton Bruni. She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Emma Toivonen as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Peter, parents Constance and Herbert McKeown, sister Margaret Falconer, brothers Pat and Brian McKeown, brother-in-law Charles Falconer and sister-in-law Mina McKeown.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 in the Chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Victor DeGagne officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Maureen will be lovingly laid to rest with Peter Sr. at a later date.
