Obituary for May Kmill

May Kmill (nee Meimi Long)

It is with great sadness that the family of May Kmill announce her passing on May 12, 2015 at the age of 83. Born the 3rd of 8 children (Marty, Mauno, Veikko, Miriam, Manne, Shirley and Wilfred) to Julia and Ilmari Long of Port Arthur. May had a simple and family oriented childhood on the “farm” which extended through her adult years.

She was happily married to her best friend William Kmill for 60 years and together they were the heart of their own family. May was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for the many family gatherings that were held. For most of her working career she was a dietary aid at Dawson Court where she made many friends. In her retirement, she kept busy spending countless hours gardening, making perogies and having regular lunches with her sisters, the “golden girls”. May possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humour. She rarely missed the activities/sporting events of her grandchildren and praised them continuously.

She will be forever in the hearts of her children Larry (Jane), Gail Speak, Don (Caterina), Grandchildren (Heather, Billy, Mark, Ben, and Stacey), and great grandchildren (Carter, Ryder and Kennedy). Predeceased by her husband (William Kmill), mother (Julia Long), father (Ilmari Long), brothers (Marty and Manne) and sister (Miriam Noel).

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
