Obituary for May Lucy Matson (Boden)

May Lucy Matson
Aug. 17,1916 - Dec. 6, 2022

May died Dec. 6, 2022 at 106 yrs. old. She was born in Liverpool, England and later moved to Manchester. She met her husband Orval Matson in London, England during WWII and left for Canada as a war bride aboard the Acquitannia. May settled in Port Arthur to raise her three beautiful daughters: Brenda, Patricia, and Jennifer.

Over the years May became a sales clerk for the Salvation Army Thrift Store until her retirement whereupon she moved into the P.R. Cook apartments at St. Joseph's Heritage. There, she volunteered at Bethammi Nursing home for over thirty years.

May loved to walk, swim, and dance. She was known to win awards in walking and swimming at the Thunder Bay Senior Games. And, of course, she also used to knit her fingers to the bone for various church bazaars.

May also loved to travel sharing these experiences with her long time companion Gordon Earl, visiting Cuba, Hawaii, northern U.S., and England.

May was seen to be an intelligent, affectionate, caring volunteer who loved to talk and socialize. Yet she was also a feisty, interesting woman who was not afraid to speak her mind.

May was predeceased by her husband Orval Matson, her sister Kay Boden, mother Mary Boden, daughter Brenda Cupelli, and companion Gordon Earl.

She is survived by her two daughters Patricia and Jennifer Matson, grand daughters Andrea Cupelli and Tara Colborne, and three great grandchildren.

She lived a long and full life.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
