Obituary for Melrose Elizabeth Brown

Melrose Elizabeth Brown

Surrounded by the love of her family, Melrose Elizabeth Brown (nee Jordan) peacefully passed away at Roseview Manor on Monday, November 30, 2015 at the age of 84
Melrose was born August 1, 1931 in Boissevain, Manitoba. At the age of seven, she and her parents moved to Roland, Manitoba, where she spent the majority of her childhood until they relocated to Ontario. Initially they lived together in Beardmore, Ontario, but later Melrose moved to Port Arthur to live with her Aunt Nina and Uncle Andrew Hartviksen in order to attend King's Business College. Eventually her parents and siblings would follow to the city.
In 1956, Melrose met the love of her life, James Burton Brown and was married November 21, 1957. One year later, they were blessed with a son who brought them much joy throughout their lives. Melrose loved to travel and spend time with friends and family, but her most cherished times were those spent with her grandchildren.
Employed for forty-one years, Melrose worked as a stenographer in the Insurance Adjusting business for Thunder Bay Insurance (J. Spittlehouse) as well as C.K. Alexander Insurance Adjusters, where she later became part owner of the business.
Melrose is pre-deceased by her infant brother Albert, parents Russell and Nora Jordan, husband James, sisters Brenda Erickson (Durwood) and Wendy Cancade (Cecil), brothers in law Ralph Brown (Daisy) and Leslie Brown.
Left with her loving memory are her son Douglas (Roma), and grandchildren Adam and Sarah who will deeply miss her. Also surviving Melrose is her brother-in-law Donald Brown (Sharon) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the caring staff at Roseview Manor - the untiring care provided by many of the employees did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated.
Melrose was a caring, strong, determined lady who lived life to the fullest and was very well liked. She will be sadly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Cremation has taken place and we would like you to join us to celebrate Melrose's life at the Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. A private interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. On- line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
