Merle Robert McGillis, age 61, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, April 15, 2022 at TBRHSC.

Merle always loved the outdoors – weekends would find him camping, fishing, hunting, or building something. He also enjoyed winter camping at Whitefish Lake. He was a very proud grandpa and spent as much time as he could with his grandkids.

Merle is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laurie; son Robert (Kristy) McGillis; daughter Amanda (Jamie) Childs; grandchildren Abigail McGillis and Brodie, Bryce, and Levi Childs; mother Vera McGillis; brother Larry (Sandra) McGillis; sister Brenda (Mike) Richard; brothers-in-law Ron (Elizabeth) Zweep, Rodger (Svetlana) Zweep and Gary (Jo-Ann) Zweep; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Milton McGillis and his parents-in-law Ronald and Shirley Zweep.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 164 Clayte Street, Thunder Bay, P7A 6S6, on July 16, 2022, from 1-5pm. We extend an invitation to family and friends to help celebrate Merle’s life.
