The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Mona McEwen can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Sandy Beach at McEwen's

I would love to share my story of growing up with the McEwens at Sandy Beach.  My memories are so vivid of the days going back and forth between our two camps each day always finding something to do.  It was either making milkshakes and French fries with Mary Lynne at McEwen’s or sneaking up to the “big” park to the Pavilion to buy a chocolate bar, candy cotton, or play a game of pinball and then taunt the monkeys Salt & Pepper.  We took swimming lessons at Sandy Beach, field days were held at the end of the season which included three-legged races, egg tossing, tug-a-wars, the canteen was open, seesaws, swings, rowboat decorating contests, and to end the day a big bonfire & corn roast.  Of course Don & Mona were always part of these occasions.  I only wish someday we could organize a Sandy Beach Campers Reunion, perhaps have it at Chippewa Park.
