Obituary for Monica Ellen McComber

After fulfilling a 93 year shift, our mother Monica McComber peacefully passed away on Monday February 14th. Always wanting to help others, she began her journey proudly graduating from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing and working at St. Joseph’s hospital afterward. From there, she continued her career heading the health services department at Confederation College. Her after-work evenings were filled with hours of laughter with her bridge club girls whom she cherished dearly. In her retirement, she enjoyed travelling as a sunbird to both Florida and Arizona with her siblings and playing duplicate bridge. Her summers were spent at the family camp lounging and watching generations of “Mackenzie kids” grow up, supplying them all with her special peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Mom was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and rarely missed the opportunity to feverishly root on her “boyfriend” Bo Bichette! (with a scotch in hand).

Mom attacked life head-on with no regrets. When making a tough decision, she always insisted that it was “ok to look back, but don’t stare”, and the terms “could have” or “should have” were frowned upon. She selflessly raised four children, always pushing us to be the best.

Monica will lovingly be remembered by her 4 children; Anne Resnick (Chuck) of Toronto, Jarvis (Kathy) of Thunder Bay, John of Toronto, and Paul of Thunder Bay. Also left to mourn is Monica’s sister Noel Heit of Toronto and sister-in law Mimi Andrews of Sudbury. She leaves behind a heartbroken clan of loving grandchildren; Lindsay (Nathan), Myles, Matthew, Hannah, Mitchell and great-grandchildren Jackson, Hudson and daughter in-law Paula. She was predeceased by her parents William and Margaret Friday, husband Sandy, brothers Dr. Winston Friday, Russell Friday, and Jack Friday, sisters Anne Sample, Teresa Friday and Rosemary (in infancy).
Cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will take place a later date.

The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Stewart Kennedy for years of special care. In memory of our mother, donations to the Dew Drop Inn or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com
