Obituary for Peter "Junior" Joseph Giardetti

Mr. Peter (Junior) Giardetti, age 88 years, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and Friend passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 18, 2022.

Junior was born in Port Arthur on May 12, 1934 as the second of three children to Peter and Catherine (Kay) Giardetti. He grew up in Port Arthur as an avid sportsman with baseball, football, curling and hockey being his favorites. He was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Cardinals fan (one of the few Cardinal fans in the city).

On October 6, 1956 he married the love of his life of more than 66 years Nadine Buchowsky. Their love and devotion to each other was an inspiration to all. Together they were the loving parents to 4 children, Cathy (Andrew) Affleck, Sharon Clinton, and the twins Peter (Tara) Giardetti, Paul (Cindy) Giardetti. However his greatest joy was his seven grandchildren Amanda (Dan) Horne, Sean (Kasia) Affleck, Justin (Devin Kolic) Affleck, Jason Clinton, Meagan Clinton, Daniel Giardetti & Madeline Giardetti and his two great grandchildren, Nicholas & Lucas Horne. He cherished the time spent with all of them, especially all of the family gatherings at the cottage at Silver Beach. Some of his favorite pastimes included playing cards with friends and family and going to the casino. He was also proud to carry on the family business from his father being the owner of Giardetti Bros. Plumbing and Heating for almost 50 years.

Besides being survived by his wife and children, he is also survived by his brother Ron (Carol) Giardetti, sisters in-law Luba (Lorne) LeMarbe and Annette Durica, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Peter & Kay, sister Lorraine and brother in-law Ray Ceresino, in-laws Irene (Stan) Kosheluk, Harold (Marian) Buchowsky, Vera (Lorne) Schaefer, George Durica and son-in-law Frank Clinton.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stewart Kennedy, Dr. Kevin Miller, Palliative Care Nurse Susie and the staff at St. Elizabeth Home Care for their guidance, assistance and excellent care provided to our father, which allowed the family to care for him at home. Also, thank you to the wonderful staff at St Joseph’s Hospice. A special thank you to Junior’s son in-law Dr. Andrew Affleck for the loving and compassionate care he gave to our father and the whole family.

Funeral Mass will take place at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 2:00 pm Thursday December 29, 2022. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. The mass will be livestreamed via the Sargent & Son Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Parkinsons Canada or the St Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements in care of Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel.
