Obituary for Raymond Adrien Joseph Gauthier

It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond (Ray) Gauthier announce his passing on July 15th, 2022 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Ray was born on May 5th, 1937 in Harty, Ontario to Adélard and Niama Gauthier. In his younger years, Ray owned a small taxi business and after that joined Levesque Plywood in Hearst, Ontario. For over 30 years he worked as a foreman and moved upwards into managing safety and quality at the plant. Ray married his one and only love, Elizabeth (Liz) Bosnick and were married 61 years. Ray was very proud of his small family and most proud of his daughter Darlene.

Ray and his family enjoyed summer camping. From fishing to singing songs around the campfire, being together was all that mattered. Later in life, Ray and Liz moved to Kapuskasing, Ontario to be near Darlene and her family. Ray was a loyal grandfather to both his grandchildren, Beth and Elaina, and spent his retirement years giving them his unconditional love. In 2014, Ray and Liz followed Darlene, her husband Nelson, and their daughters to Thunder Bay. Ray was exceptionally proud to welcome his first great-grandchild, Grace, into the family and loved when she would enter the house calling for “Papa”.

Ray loved being outdoors. Going partridge hunting in the fall, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, and traveling with family all-year round. One trip that will forever be remembered was when Ray and Liz traveled to St. Lucia for their 25th wedding anniversary with Liz’s sister May and brother-in-law, Bob Sweet. The group enjoyed traveling together, from coast to coast. Ray would never miss an opportunity to spend time with family. His family knew of him as an avid John Wayne fan and that he enjoyed watching old Western movies.

Raymond was the eleventh out of twelve children and was exceptionally loyal to his brothers and sisters. He will be lovingly remembered by Elizabeth Gauthier (wife), his beloved daughter Darlene Turcotte (Nelson Turcotte), his two granddaughters, Beth Fowler (Gavin Fowler), Elaina Turcotte, his great-granddaughter, Grace Fowler, his sister, Margo Grant, and numerous family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Adélard and Niama Gauthier, his brothers and sisters, and many other family members.

Raymond’s family would like to thank the medical team at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their hard work and support during the short time that he was in the hospital.

Cremation has taken place. A private family funeral service in his memory will be held at St. Agnes Church, on July 22nd, 2022. In lieu of floral arrangements, donations in his memory may be made to the Thunder Bay Food Bank. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
