Reijo Kalevi Saarinen, age 87 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Reijo was born on December 24, 1933 in Finland, he came to Canada with his neighbour Tapani Suutari in 1955. Reijo worked in the Forest industry for many years and locations throughout Northwestern Ontario with a stint in Prince George, BC putting in hydro lines. Reijo was a labourer with the labourer’s Union Local 607 for the last 20 years. Reijo retired at age 60. Family and friends were his life. You would often see Reijo at the Hoito, he enjoyed many meals there over 60 years. Reijo will be remembered by his brother Alpo, nephews George and Gordon (Gail), grandnieces Seija, Kaija and Amanda and grandnephew Derek. He was predeceased by his parents Nestori and Eini in Finland and sister-in-law Kyllikki Saarinen. A private service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 with Pastor Jari Lahtinen officiating.
