Obituary for Robert Keith Schumacher

Robert Keith Schumacher sadly passed away on July 26, 2022 in hospital after a brief illness. He is lovingly remembered by his mother and stepfather; Helen and George Tucker, sisters; Heather Woodbeck (Bruce) and Barb Schumacher (Roland King) as well as nieces and nephews; Kris, Heidi, Kailee and Susan. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Schumacher.

Robert was born August 26, 1956 in Geraldton. The family moved to Thunder Bay in 1971 and he resided there ever since. Robert battled Schizophrenia for much of his life. Through all of his many health challenges, he was kind, helpful and organized.

Robert loved cooking & baking, completing a Culinary Arts diploma from Confederation College. He was an incredible baker, creating the most delicious cakes for family and friend’s birthdays and celebrations.

Robert volunteered his time as a cook and baker for the New Directions Clubhouse at the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), where he was part of a support system with others facing mental health challenges. At the Clubhouse, Robert become a member of the Society of Excellent Men and was involved in many of the CMHA programs. He appreciated nice cars and fine clothes. His other passions were dogs, farming, travel and creating art.

The family would like to thank the TBRHSC Emergency, ICU and 2B physicians and staff for their care during his final illness. They would also like to thank Mike Siska and the CMHA; Gene W. and Alpha Court; Dr. Goodman and the Norwest Community Health Centre staff; the Cancer Centre as well as his psychiatrists’ Dr. Darryl Vance, Dr. Suzanne Allain and their teams for their ongoing care and support over the years.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Those wanting to commemorate Rob’s memory can donate to the CMHA.
