Obituary for Rosa Maria Amato

Rosetta (Rosa) Amato
December 3, 1950 – July 18, 2015

With great sadness, Rosa Amato, 64 years of age, passed away peacefully at the TBRHSC on Saturday July 18, 2015, with her family by her side. Rosa was born December 3, 1950 in Cimitile, Napoli, Italy.

At the age of 8 years old, she moved to Canada and then 8 years following, found the love of her life and on August 5, 1967, married Vito Amato and then moved to Thunder Bay. Rosa will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her 4 children, Gianna (Wade) Thompson, Teresa (Paul) Ivanore, Nancy (Joao) Neves, and Salvatore (Lisa) Amato.

Mourning the loss of their Nonna Rosa are her 5 grandchildren that were her everything; Sophia, Paige, Gabriella Amato and Alexis and Joao Jr. Neves.

She is also survived by sister Lata (Pierre) Raby, Carmen (Sam) Barber, Antonietta (Guiseppe) Pacchiano and brother, Felix Arnone as well as by numerous nieces and nephews in Italy and Canada whom she loved dearly.

She is predeceased by her husband, Vito, 9 years, and by her parents, Enrico and Maria Arianna Arnone, and in-laws, Giovannina Sasso and Salvatore Amato, together with her brother, Domenic Arnone, her nephews Richard Raby and Giovanni Pacchiano and several in-laws in Italy.

Over the years, mom was a dedicated “domestic engineer” for all of her children. She always supported us in all of our dreams and desires. She had a heart of gold for volunteerism especially when she was an active member and executive of the Societa Italiana Di Benevolenza Principe Di Piemonte Ladies Society until her illnesses would not let her do so.

In all of her spare time she enjoyed gardening, playing cards, Bingo, and spending time with family and friends and of course her grandchildren. Her grandchildren always kept a smile on her face and laughter to her ears. She looked forward to talking to them every day and if she was unable to see them, kisses were shared over the phone. Sleepovers and get-togethers with all of them was her new found joy in life.

The family would like to thank Dr. Boake, Dr. Malik and especially the emergency and ICU staff of the TBRHSC for making her last day comfortable with her family by her side.

Visitation for family and friends will be held in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street on Tuesday July 21st from 5 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday July 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's R.C. Church celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. A private interment for the family will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Kidney Foundation, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
