Obituary

Obituary for Russell Michael Boucher

Russell Michael Boucher, age 67, slipped away peacefully into the afterlife with his wife by his side.

Russell was born April 30, 1953 to John and Phyllis (Cyrette) Boucher. He was raised in Fort William and attended local schools. As an adult he was employed as an industrial painter, his last position was at the general hospital. He was also a gifted artist and top-notch pool player.

At seventeen, he met Doreen Winks, a volunteer counsellor at Wayside United Church in the East End of Fort William. A chance meeting five years later led to marriage and lifelong commitment and devotion for 46 years until his last breath.

They shared a love of animals and during their time together adopted stray and homeless cats including the whole family of mother and her kittens. Two dogs shared their life, First Ché and later Vader.

Russell will be forever missed by his wife Doreen and their fur buddies; Gus, Orbison, Mossy and Moody. He is survived by his mother, six sisters, In-laws Dennis and Cathy Winko, Irene Winko and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father John, brother Douglas and mother-in-law Bella Winko.

A special thank you to the physicians and nurses that took care of Russell in his final weeks in ICU and 2B at the Thunder Bay Regional and Palliative Care 4 North at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Also thank you to Dr. Hagerty and Dr. Davies at the Cancer Centre who treated Russell’s cancer and prolonged his life and gave him hope.

Doreen would like to express her gratitude to Russell’s sister Violet who sent her love and encouragement to Russell in his final months. Violet, his sister Louise and her daughter Debby O’Callahan were there for Doreen and Russell during and after his passing.

Cremation has taken place and as per Russell’s wishes, there will be no service held.

In memory of a kind, sensitive man, please donate to an animal rescue organization or just be kind to animals. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.

“I will love and miss you Poky”- Always Doreen.

What is life?
It is the flash of a firefly
In the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo
In the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which
runs across the grass.
and loses itself in the
sunset. – Chief Yellow Horse
