Mr. Samuel Maki, 62 years passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April, 20, 2022 in his home. Sam was born on December 4, 1959 to the late Charles and Therese (née Chartier) Maki. He spent his childhood in Current River, and he attended St. Theresa School and Lakeview High School. Sam was employed for over 25 years as lead hand in the beater room at Abitibi Provincial Paper. Throughout his life, Sam enjoyed the outdoors, especially his annual hunting trips with his brother, Rudy, brother-in-law, Frank, nephew, Chuck, and friends, Terry Doiron and Rex Staver. He was also an avid fisherman. Sam was a lifelong hockey fan: He played for the Current River Comets, enjoyed attending his grandson’s hockey games, and instilled a love for the game and the Boston Bruins in his children and grandchildren.

Sam is lovingly remembered by his children, April (Shawn) Houston, and Sami (Tracey) and Danny (Ashley) Maki, as well as their mother, Tarja Maki, all of Thunder Bay; grandchildren, Ethan, Marley, Jack, Cash, Sophia, and Cora; brothers, Thom and Jim (Cathy) Maki; sister, Therese (Frank) Augruso; sisters-in-law, Karen Maki and Donna Maki; one aunt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Sam was predeceased by three brothers, Daniel, Rudy, and John Maki; his grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Francis Pudicherry presiding. As a tribute to Sam, those attending the service are invited to wear Boston Bruins fan apparel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Our Hearts at Home Cardiovascular Campaign would be appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
