Obituary for Stefan "Steve" Hrymnak

Stefan "Steve" Hrymnak
The family of Steve Hrymnak sadly announces his passing on November 23, 2015 at home with his family at his side.

Steve was born in Port Arthur on March 3, 1926 to Natalie and Onofrey Hrymnak. A veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and a lifetime resident of the city, he ventured off to play professional hockey in New York, St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Edmonton and New Westminster. In 1962-63, he travelled to Sweden as captain of the Port Arthur Bearcats winning the Ahearne World Cup. His love for the game was carried on by his grandsons whom he so proudly watched.

He was happiest when we was in the bush prospecting for gold or having a tool in his hand to show you how to fix something – lawn mowers and chainsaws being his specialty. He enjoyed life living on Lake Superior with his beloved wife Belle of 68 years. Getting together with friends for a round of golf and storytelling was another great pleasure and he had a lot of stories to tell!

Steve is survived by his wife Belle, daughters Cathy (Phil) Poling and Debbie (Bill) Bennett, grandchildren Phil, Kristofer (Stephanie), Gregory and Stefanie Poling(Kelly Brodie), great grandchildren Bailey and Parker Poling, Olivia and Noah Poling, Jailin, Mylee and Haiden Poling-Brodie. Steve was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of his twin great grandsons in January. Steve is also survived by his sister Anne Drebit as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, sister Marie, son Stephen and daughter-in-law Anna-Marie.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Ciaran Donnelly presiding. All services are complete in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Hope Dog Rescue, Kitty Kare or to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences may be made at sargentandson.com.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Laferriere, Dr. Simpson and Dr. Kennedy, Sarah, and all of the wonderful VON nurses especially Lucia and Cathy.
