Obituary for Valeriano Salvatore Valente

VALENTE- Mr. Valeriano Salvatore Valente, age 88 years, passed away peacefully with loving family at his side in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Monday, November 5, 2018. He was born in Brognaturo, Italy on July 7, 1930, the son of Bruno and Maria Valente. He immigrated to Canada in the early 1950’s and after establishing himself was joined by his wife Pina in 1953. Together they enjoyed 64 years of matrimony and raised their three children Bruno, Frank and Mary, who in turn blessed them with the 5 grandchildren that they loved so dearly. Valeriano enjoyed making wine, working in the garden, cooking and was the undisputed checkers champion of the family. He was a chef by trade, initially working in the bush camps and later at the Prince Arthur Hotel before he began his career as a baker at Safeway. Valeriano was a member of the Italian Society of Port Arthur and a member of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church. His family was everything to him and the time he spent with them, especially at Christmas time, was what brought him his greatest joy. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his children Bruno (Rose), Frank (Connie) and Mary (Steve), his beloved grandchildren: Daniel, Olivia, Mikayla, Vanessa and Amanda sisters-in-law Felicia, Rosina and Lidia, brother-in-law Cosimo as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada, U.S.A., France, Australia and Italy. He was predeceased by his wife Pina, his parents, brothers Luigi, Nicola, Antonio and Giuseppe, sisters Rosa and Caterina, sister-in-law Angelina and brother-in-law Bruno.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of the wonderful and dedicated medical and nursing staff at the T.B.R.H.S.C. (2A) and at St. Joseph’s Care Group (5N and 5S) together with all of the Personal Support Workers from the LHIN/CCAC with special thanks to Christi and Sharon for the highly professional and compassionate care provided to our father during the course of this difficult past year. Special thanks also go out to Dr. Scali for the wonderful medical care that he has provided over the years.

Funeral services for the late Valeriano Valente will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 when family and friends will gather in St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 9:30 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. The entombment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, where the Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m..
