Obituary for Wayne Reginald Allen

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wayne Reginald Allen on February 19, 2022 at St Joseph’s Palliative Care Unit.

Wayne was born on August 13,1942 in Port Arthur to Clarence and Vera (Williams) Allen. Wayne attended Pine St School and Port Arthur Technical Institute and went on to work for Great Lakes Paper Mill for 33 years. In 1968, Wayne married Lana Fuchihara and together they raised their two daughters in Thunder Bay.

Wayne, or Weiners, as he was affectionately known to his friends and family, was a huge sports fan. He was a lifetime Blue Jays fan. He also had a real love for the New York Rangers and although he would never admit it, he was also a secret Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

Wayne was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge. If you happened to be attending a shag, you may have seen him there working behind the bar. You knew you were in his good books if he handed you your drink without collecting your drink ticket. In his retirement, he spent his days going for coffee and weekly lunches with his friends, driving to Grand Portage, looking after his grand-dogs, watching Carter play hockey and visiting Lyla and Tori in Australia and North Vancouver.

Anyone lucky enough to know Wayne will remember him for being a tough, grumpy, jokester on the outside but a generous, loyal, big hearted soul on the inside.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Lana, two daughters, Leanne (Peter Poddubny) of Thunder Bay, ON and Rhonda (Paul Birchenough) of North Vancouver, BC and four grandchildren, Lyla and Tori Birchenough, Jacob and Carter Poddubny. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Maureen Allen of Dryden, ON, many other nieces, nephews and family members that were close to his heart. He was predeceased by his parents Vera and Clarence Allen.

The family would like to thank Dr. Andrea Shepard, Dr. Rey Acedillo and Bayshore Nurses Kathleen and Jennifer for their special care.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022 in the chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home. Those attending the service must provide proof of double vaccination and proper identification. Those wishing to watch the service virtually may do so on the Sargent & Son Facebook page.
