Obituary for Wilbur Andrew Furlotte

FURLOTTE

Our dear uncle, Wilbur Andrew Furlotte, age 87 years, and long time resident of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully with his family at his side on April 11, 2015. Born on May 17, 1927 in Jacquet River, New Brunswick, Wilbur moved to Port Arthur in the late 1950's to work and live near his family. It is for his love and caring for his family that he is so greatly admired.

He lived and worked in Thunder Bay, residing on High Street for the past 44 years and retired from Abitibi Provincial Paper when he was 61.

Although he had no children of his own, he was a wise father figure and grandfather figure to us all. He was our family historian, story teller and our resident expert on playing cards. He made his home a place of welcome where he looked after his mother and his brother, Eddie, his sisters and any of us when we were in need. His hospitality and caring extended to his summer camp at Arrow Lake. Gardening, hunting and fishing and his dogs were an important part of his life. So was his love of traveling, especially his many trips to New Brunswick and visiting his sister in P.E.I and his once in a life time trip to California on a month long bus tour.

Wilbur is survived by his two sisters, Jenny (Vaughan) Waite and Cecilia Rougeau both in Alberta and sister-in-law, Jessie Alice Furlotte of Thunder Bay.

Wilbur will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, 39 in all, including his niece Marianne (Roy) Larson and her children: Ericka (Zachary, June and Colton) Reszitnyk, Sheena, Paul and Erik Larson, niece Valerie (Jerry) Wesselius, and her son, Brian (Lisa) Adams, special nephew Don (Susan) Furlotte and his daughters: Jennifer (Chris, Zakk) Furlotte-Hamilton and Melissa Furlotte, niece Christine Boby of Vancouver, BC and her children: Alex and Andrea Boby and nephew Brian (Pam) Kivilahti of New York.

He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters: Dorothy Savoie and Helena Kivilahti and five brothers: Bill, Raymond, Norman James, Paul Melvin and Eddie Furlotte.

Thank you Uncle Wilbur for being such wonderful brother, uncle, and mentor. We are so blessed to have shared in your life.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens will follow the reception.
As an expression of sympathy, memorials to the St. Joseph's Foundation of Thunder Bay or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
