Obituary for Zane Allam

With very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Zane Allam, age 72, on Thursday, February 24, 2022 with family by his side at the TBRHSC. Zane was born in Fort William on January 26, 1950 and lived all his life in Thunder Bay.

Zane loved his family wholeheartedly. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years Cathy, sons Raymond and Tim and daughter-in-law, Caitlin along with his 3 precious granddaughters, Hayden, Harper and Morgan. Zane’s granddaughters meant the whole world to him. Zane spent countless hours reading, playing board games and constructing Christmas crafts with his girls creating hours of cherished memories. He also never missed an opportunity to support his children’s and later his grandchildren’s hobbies, sports and interests.

Zane worked as a Carman at CN Rail for 30+ years and upon retirement, worked at local golf courses throughout Thunder Bay, most recently with Thunder Bay Country Club. Zane worked tirelessly as a volunteer holding various positions with Current River Minor Hockey, Port Arthur Minor Hockey and the Robin’s Donuts Hockey Tournament for 25 years. Zane was also a Boy Scout Leader for numerous years and there was always a waiting list to join his troop. He enjoyed meeting up with his friends for coffee on a regular basis and his circle of friends grew large over time.

Zane was a very kind, compassionate and loving person. Zane took a special joy in seeing the kids that he watched playing hockey as youth continue on the tradition as volunteers with their own children. He would go out of his way to quietly slip one and two-dollar bills into the infant carriers of new babies that he met as generations carried on. Zane would effortlessly brighten up any room with his infectious personality. He found a meaningful connection with everyone and anyone and would put all who met him at ease.

Zane is also survived by a large extended family whom he enjoyed being a part of. Zane was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Nick Allam, in-laws, Reino and Martha Kauppi, brothers-in-law, Louie Kauppi and Marvin Valliere and nephew, Kevin Valliere.
As per Zane’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held later this summer. If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to a charity of their choice.

You will be loved and remembered and missed always.
Love you lots and lots.
