Obituary for Edward Charles "Eddie`" Kachur

KACHUR- Mr. Edward Charles “Eddie” Kachur, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospice on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Eddie was born on April 22, 1934 to Michael and Clara Kachur. He grew up in the East End, where along with attending school and church, he spent as much time as possible on the outdoor hockey rink. Eddie enjoyed a successful hockey career, culminating with his time spent with the Chicago Blackhawks of the N.H.L. Eddie was inducted into the Rhode Island Reds Hockey Hall of Fame in 1973 and Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of fame in 1998. Eddie married his country sweetheart Sheila Waino on December 5, 1959 and the two recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Together they raised their three sons. Following his career in hockey, Eddie worked at Manitoba Pool 3 for 22 years. After 5 years of retirement at Lac Des Milles Lacs, Eddie and Sheila purchased Camp Sawmill Bay where they developed many new friendships. Eddie loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and was a member of the Slovak Legion. Family, especially his grandchildren, was very important to him and when he had the opportunity he enjoyed watching them play hockey. He is survived by his wife Sheila, sons Edward Jr. (Christine), Cary, and Kris; grandchildren: John, Claire, Mackenzie and Kaleb, sisters-in-law Margaret Kachur, Helen Kachur and Barbara Waino as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Andrew “Sonny” and Michael “Rommel”, in-laws Arthur and Bertha Waino and brother-in-law John “Jack” Waino. Friends are invited to join the family at the North End Recreation Centre on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to celebrate Eddie’s life. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the T.B.R.H.S. Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund or the St. Joseph’s Foundation would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
