Obituary for Alfred Ronquist

RONQUIST- Mr. Alfred William “Alf” Ronquist, age 81 years, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side in St. Joseph’s Care Group on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Alf was born in Port Arthur on April 17, 1932 to Charles and Vivi Ronquist. A lifelong resident of Pass Lake he was a commercial fisherman owning and operating Ronquist Fisheries. In younger years he worked for Newaygo Logging and as a truck driver for Abitibi Forest Products. It was during this time that he met his future wife Edna Koistinen. The two were married on April, 12, 1957 and together raised three children. Alf was a hardworking man who spent most of his free time puttering around on various projects. He enjoyed music and dancing and eating his wife’s wonderful cooking. His greatest joy came in time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren whom he dearly treasured. Alf will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his children: Brian (Donna), Carl (Karen), Eileen Lidemark (Gary); grandchildren: Breann (Terry), Brooks, Carlee Lou, Steven (Melissa), Darren (Kiirsti) and Kaila; great grandsons Kole and Gavin, special canine companion "Ruby", sister Doris (Henry) Hansen, brother Nils, as well as by nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Edna (2012) and his parents. A memorial service to celebrate Alf’s life will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Ed Long presiding. Interment at Salem Cemetery, Pass Lake, ON will follow the reception. Should friends so desire, memorial donations to the Pass Lake Lutheran Church, Sports & Rec, Fire Team or charity of their choice would be greatly appreciated.
