Obituary for Arlene Parker

PARKER: Miss Arlene Joan Parker, age 70 years, a resident of Pioneer Drive passed away peacefully with family and friends present in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital-McKellar General on Monday, June 30, 2003. She was born in Port Arthur on March 22, 1933 and was a lifetime resident. In her younger years Arlene was an outstanding athlete excelling in softball, women's hockey, basketball and track and field. She worked for 36 years with the City of Thunder Bay in the tax office. She enjoyed travelling and camping at Arrow Lake. A member of St. Paul's United Church where she served on the Board of Management, Arlene had been attending Westminster United Church. As well, Arlene was a member of the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, Branch #5 of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Legion Sports Foundation and an active member of C.U.P.E. Local 87. She will be lovingly remembered by brother Con (Carol), sister Jaqueline (Jackie) of Ignace, nephews Murray (Donna) Visseau of Ignace and Allan Parker of Toronto, nieces: Cheryl (Robin) Parks of Calgary, Karen (Ted) Marunchak and Alison (Rick) Locke; longtime friend Eileen Rice as well as by numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her father John in 1965, mother Eva in 1988, 2 brothers Allan and Roderick, both in infancy and brother-in-law Edward Visseau in 2003. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 4th at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Waverley Street, with Rev. Susan Ivany officiating. Services will be complete in the church with interment of cremated remains to take place at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the T.B.R.H. Cardiac Rehab Unit, Branch #5 Building Fund or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street.
