Obituary for Barbara Lambden

Barbara Lily LAMBDEN January 1, 1926-February 1, 2013 Barbara died suddenly but peacefully in her home on Friday, February 1st, 2013 in the arms of her beloved husband John and her two little dogs Mindy and Lili. Barb was born in Port Arthur to Samuel and Lily Green on January 1st, 1926. She was the 2nd oldest in her family of 5 siblings. Barbara remained her entire life in Thunder Bay, having started her career as Secretary to Tom Jones from his home. Then she worked at Port Arthur Shipyards, Great West Timber, Abitibi Thunder Bay and lastly her huge accomplishment of venturing to open her fine furniture store "The Final Touch" retiring at age 60. Barb was very involved in the arts from a very young age as her and her elder sister Elsie were a gymnastic dance duo performing at a variety of venues including the stage at the Paramount Theatre. She loved all genres of music and never stopped singing and dancing. Barb belonged to the Eastern Star, the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Michael’s, an active member of the church Choir and she was always honoured and available when asked to assist with the Communion or a reading of a Scripture. Barb was blessed to meet her soul mate John and they had 35 happy and exciting years together. Travelling to Paradise Islands, Jamaica, Barbados, Cancun and then chartering and crewing a sailboat down the coast of Florida, then wintering at their home in Punta Gorda, Florida. Barb's family, meant the world to her. She was very proud of her two daughters that she raised on her own. She was a very independent, proud lady that worked hard all her life and accomplished so much. Her 1st Great Grandchild, Jazlyn Joy filled her heart with love and was so pleased to hear her call her Grandma Gi Gi. Barb is survived by her loving husband John, daughters Deborah Servais(Enroute from Whiterock B.C.), Suzanne(Alan) Fydirchuk(Shebandowan), grandsons: Jason (Cari) Fydirchuk(Enroute from Calgary, Taylor(Allie) arrived from Toronto, Great Granddaughter, Jazlyn Joy Fydirchuk(Calgary). Also survived by her sister Sylvia Anderson(Desi)(Guelph)and brother Ron Green(Elaine)(Kakabeka Falls). Stepchildren and their families all living in the United States as well as numerous special cousins, nieces , nephews , "adopted children" and many lifelong dear friends. Predeceased by her parents, Sam and Lily, sister Elsie and brother Fred. The service to honour Barbara's life will be held on Saturday February 9th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church on Red River Road with Rev. Chris Harper officiating. The Family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Barb's memory be made to T.B.R.H.S. Foundation-Breast Cancer Fund, Ladies Auxiliary of St. Michael’s Anglican Church, the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
